Schmittenhöhe – our local mountain
Different lifts run on Zell's own local mountain - the Schmittenhöhe - during the summer months. The Schmittenhöhebahn, Sonnalmbahn and Areitbahn Section I will all carry you up to, or near the top of the mountain. Once at the mountain station in question, you will be able to set out on the most beautiful hiking tours imaginable – while friendly mountain huts invite you to stop in, relax and enjoy.
For your return to the valley, you can ride the lifts again, or make your way back down on foot. Good hiking or mountaineering shoes are an absolute must in this kind of terrain, while functional outdoor clothing also has an important role to play. If the weather happens to change quickly, it will protect you from the rain and other quirks of nature. At our Bründl Sports Shops in Zell am See, we have the right items to meet all of your needs.
Other Hiking Opportunities
The opportunities for hiking close to Zell am See are practically infinite. The character of the tour often depends on the availability of lifts. On the Kitzsteinhorn or Maiskogel "Family Mountain", for example, you will quickly be able to get to the top (or back down to the valley).
Other mountains, such as the Hundstein, don't have lifts available. Which means, every hiker needs to insure they are in the right physical condition to make the ascent as well as the descent.
Since weather in the mountains can often take a turn for the worse, the right outdoor clothing is indispensable for all hikers. From shoes and poles to weatherproof outerwear, you will find everything you need at the Bründl Sport Shops in Zell am See.
