Friday - Start of the adventure

The starting signal was given at the Bründl Sports flagship store in Kaprun, where the winners met at 4 pm. After a short briefing with the mountain guides and athlete Nadine Wallner, the Völkl skis and Ortovox equipment were distributed. Despite the unfavourable weather forecast, which made it necessary to change the planned route, the anticipation was great. In the evening, the group arrived at the Naturfreundehaus in Kolm Saigurn, where they enjoyed a cosy evening meal together.

Saturday - Ascent and descent between the weather fronts

Early in the morning, the group started the ascent to the Hoher Sonnblick. The weather conditions were just right for reaching the summit after a challenging ascent of over 1,600 metres in altitude. The subsequent descent in the sunshine and the visit to the Naturfreundehaus Neubau, where the experiences of the day were shared over a well-earned beer, were the highlights. The afternoon ended relaxing in the sauna and hot tub while the predicted cold front moved in outside.

Sunday - Powder snow and technical know-how

On Sunday morning, the fresh powder snow was at its best - ideal conditions for testing out the Völkl ski touring skis to the full. After an ascent towards Niedersachsenhaus and a fantastic descent in powder snow, the weekend was rounded off with extensive training in the handling of Ortovox avalanche equipment and a test release of the new Ortovox Avabag Litric.

The tested material

VÖLKL RISE BEYOND 96 2024

The Rise Beyond 96 from Völkl is the widest model in the touring collection, available in five different lengths and specially designed for deep snow enthusiasts. Thanks to its tip rocker, this ski offers outstanding floatation even on the softest powder runs. Its hybrid, multi-layer wood core in combination with the carbon tip shovel enables a lightweight (less than 1,262 g at 170 cm) yet robust construction. This makes the ski a reliable companion for long ascents. The innovative 3D radius construction gives the ski a lively dynamic that impresses in wide powder turns as well as in tighter, agility-challenging passages. The Smart Skinclip attachment system is compatible with Fibre-Tech and Smart Glue skins, which further increases the versatility and adaptability of this ski.

Ortovox AVABAG LITRIC SYSTEM

The new AVABAG LiTRIC from ORTOVOX is an advanced, electronic airbag system for avalanche backpacks that works without cartridges and is manufactured in Bavaria. It is one of the lightest on the market (approx. 1,100 g) and impresses with its ease of use. The system charges in around 25 minutes via USB-C and allows numerous test releases. An ergonomically customisable trigger handle and a two-layer airbag material increase safety and user-friendliness. With an operating time of approx. 60 hours in ON mode, LiTRIC is ideal for multi-day tours, supported by reliable supercapacitors and a cold-resistant battery.
